Corporate Innovation Index (CII) For Hong Kong

Innovation is critical for Hong Kong Competitiveness and Sustainability especially in current challenging times. It also serves to promote culture of entrepreneurship and continuous innovation.

 

 

 

On 25 March 2022, CUHK jointly organized a Webinar with The Hong Kong Independent Non-Executive Director Association (HKiNEDA) in Corporate Innovation Index (CII) in Hong Kong, share our views about establishing a Corporate Innovation Index mechanism in Hong Kong and explain how companies can contribute and benefit from CII.

Professor Toa Charm started the webinar with an introduction to global innovation and a polling to understand the perception of our participants about the innovation performance of Hong Kong. Participants enthusiastically joined the polling and one of the participants commented: “Israel is way over HK! It is almost as innovative as US and has led to so many new ventures.”
Professor Toa Charm continued to share the development of innovation framework, how the resources and enablers affecting the outputs, with some highlights in important factors such as digital transformation, leadership, and corporate culture. He further shared some successful innovation examples in Hong Kong.
Mr Patrick Wong, Dr Lawrence Wong, Mr. Patrick Lee and Prof Toa Charm also discussed about the importance of corporate innovation. They shared their viewpoints in benchmarking innovation performance and their insights gained in participating corporate innovation index survey. Mr. Patrick Lee said: “If a business does not innovate, the business is losing and will finally fail.”

Innovation index as a tool, has been a powerful measurement of corporate innovation, competitiveness and sustainability.  While there are global and regional innovation indices, there is no specific one for Hong Kong.

With a proper Corporate Innovation Index (CII) for Hong Kong, leaders and executives from companies can benchmark their company’s performance with others, strengthen their knowledge in innovation gaps to enhance future company  value.

We are pleased to share our views about establishing a Corporate Innovation Index mechanism in Hong Kong and explain how companies can contribute and benefit from CII.

Dr Charm has 30+ years of experience in the innovation and technology industry . He held senior management positions in leading multinational, Hong Kong and mainland enterprises including Cyberport, HSBC, IBM, Oracle, Kingdee & Jardine Pacific.

Dr Charm is the Chairman of a few elite start-ups in Asia. He is also the author of the book 數碼力大提升 & business case on HSBC.

Dr Wong is an expert in New Economy, fellow CPA and Data Scientist, with over 30 years of experience in leading global consulting firms (Accenture and KPMG) and comprehensive large listed companies (PCCW and Hutchison).

Currently, he focuses to provide advisory and training services to board of directors and senior management on Big Data, Digital Transformation and Fintech.

CUHK Business School is now developing a set of measurement matrices and  will recruit 100 corporates and 200 SMEs to participate in the Corporate Innovation Index(CII) ranking.
