Programme Overview

This workshop is designed to provide participants with essential skills and frameworks for making effective decisions in complex situations. By exploring biases, enhancing critical thinking, and using structured methodologies, attendees will learn to make more informed and sound choices. By the end of the session, participants will have a comprehensive toolkit to navigate difficult decisions more effectively and cultivate a mindset of critical and independent thinking.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the relationship between skills and luck in decision-making, evaluating their decisions across different contexts to identify improvement areas.
  • Create strategies to reduce biases and stay focused on the bigger picture during decision-making.
  • Distinguish between abstract and practical problem-solving to effectively address unique challenges.
  • Assess their independent thinking abilities and identify obstacles to critical thinking.

1. Making the tough decisions and overcoming biases

  • Skills Vs Luck in decision making
    • Quality of decisions
    • Don’t lose track of the big picture
    • Avoiding cognitive traps – What are the common biases clouding our judgement
    • Making sound decisions
    • Decision making using 2×2 matrix

2.Independent and critical thinking

  • Do you have Independent thinking? Are you sure?
  • What is critical thinking? What is stopping you?
  • The characteristics of a critical thinker
  • Applying critical thinking to problem solving. Address root causes instead of just symptoms
  • The importance of framing the problem properly to find root causes
  • Thinking techniques:
    • Using mind-map and logic trees to deep-dive into the issues
    • Brainstorm creative options
