The HKMA’s Fintech Journey and Navigation in the Future of Finance
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) launched “Fintech 2030,” a forward-looking strategy to strengthen Hong Kong’s fintech ecosystem, in November 2025. This seminar will trace the HKMA’s fintech journey, unpack the core pillars of “Fintech 2030,” and outline how the HKMA plans to shape the future of digital finance. It will focus on the HKMA’s DLT initiatives to improve the efficiency, transparency, and resilience of financial infrastructure, as well as DLT’s role in enabling tokenisation and innovative digital financial products.

About the Speaker :
Mr. George Chou was appointed Chief Fintech Officer of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) in September 2023, with responsibilities for facilitating the healthy development of the fintech ecosystem in Hong Kong and promoting Hong Kong as a fintech hub in Asia. He joined the HKMA in 2009 and had since taken up different positions, including overseeing technology risk management of banks, and licensing and supervision of stored value facilities. In 2022, he was appointed Chief Manager of the Financial Infrastructure Development Division. Prior to joining the HKMA, Mr Chou served various roles in the private sector of financial industry for over a decade. Mr Chou holds a Bachelor of Computer Science and Engineering degree and a Master of Business System degree from Monash University, and a Master of Management degree in Financial Management from Macquarie University.

We see the advantage of bringing together the academia and industry experts, providing a platform to carry out fruitful and productive discussions, encourage the exchange of ideas and promote future collaboration opportunities. CUHK students may also widen their exposure and receive some enlightenment in their career development.
